3 Miles

I decided I was ready to put some actual run time in my new shoes.

We all headed out to a local trail I like to do and I started out with a brisk walk. My daughter took off to test her new shoes too and I couldn't keep up.
She has always had a very graceful gait when she runs, but it's even more adorable with her Vibrams on.

The shoes seemed to be holding up quite well. In the last few weeks I had been changing my foot strike so when I finally got out there to run, I was ready to midfoot/toe strike. All in all I did pretty good. Towards the end of the 3 mile, my feet were tired and I was really lagging. Not sure if it was the shoes or me.

Today I can feel that I used muscles I haven't used before. Yay.

4 miles

My journey from your standard trail running shoes into barefoot shoes started on Christmas morning 2011 when I got to take them out for a stroll.

I have done a lot of research on the advantages and disadvantages of minimalist running. Hours of watching podcasts and reading medical reports. I've decided to take the plunge, not from reading or watching all of this, but the results I have seen in my running team.

Yesterday I took them out to the trails I have been running in my trail running shoes for almost a year. I did less than a mile of running this time out. Reading about the transition from normal shoes to minimalist shoes I know to not over do it too fast.

The recovery is different. The normal shoes, 4 miles is just a walk for me now. I can feel the back of my calves hurting a little bit more than normal with the Vibrams FiveFingers. I'm getting excited to actually do some more running in these bad boys!!
